Wild hiking / camping Rhinogs – Mon 8th Sep 2014

Early start on Monday to get to Cwm Bychan (near Harlech) to park and climb the first mountain – Rhinog Fawr 720m. We 4 then worked our way over crags and an undefined route to camp near Llyn (lake) Morwynion. Going was faster than last time, and after challenging terrain (and map reading) this time we succeeded in getting to Llyn Pryfed (across “The Badlands” we were told later), then Clip. The climbers amongst us insisted we climb Moel-Ysgyfarnogod 623m and Foel Penolau 614m. To escape the midges we decided to camp on Day 2 on the Diffwys ridge. Spectacular sunset and perfect weather. Exploratory route off the ridge to Llyn Dywarchen, then aimed South to return to the car on Wednesday. Thanks to Tom for some of the photos.
