West Mendip Way, Walking, cycling, climbing – Sat 20th Mar 2010

A quick update from a 1st timer!

Had a great trip – really enjoyed chatting with all as we completed the 32 miles over 2 days.
Harder on the feet and boots (mine fell apart at the end and are likely heading for the boot graveyard) that I thought but proud to complete the full route, although very glad to get on the bus back!

Great youth hostel facilities in Cheddar although the reception staff a little grumpy.

The first day we were lucky to get good weather upto around two – although the following couple of rainy hours were quite hard going it cleared up for us in the end. on the Sunday – what a gift of a day – the first real day of spring I would say – we had fantastic views as we walked along the ridge from cheddar towards wells. Shame we didn’t have time to enjoy some liquid refreshment enroute but was worth it to make the bus connection earlier with the long drive ahead back to brighton!

Fab thing about walking is you really get a chance to get to know people pretty well over the miles and as new to the area was a great way to meet new people, several who I’ve met up with since for various activities including of the liquid variety!

Have posted a couple of photos for you to enjoy! Thanks to Simon for organising!!

looking forward to the next trip – IOW or St. Davids – haven’t decided yet!
