The Wye Valley – Sat 20th Jun 2009

A great weekend and a great campsite with fantastic views. Well done to the trip leader whoever he was!!!

On Saturday 4 of us Matt, Ali, Viv and Craig walked to Chepstow and back along the river bank via Tintern and Brockweir, as we passed the trail down to Otter Hole cave we met up with a muddy four some on their way out. Ali and Viv were not impressed with my comments that they should think of Sundays trip as a day at a health spa.

So as Sunday dawned clear and bright to a cheer (it was the shortist night) the girls could be seen muttering together no doubt trying to think of a way out of going down.

We met up with Richard Handy and our guide (you need to have one on this trip) and had a great day out (well I loved it anyway that’s why I keep going back) coming out at 4.30pm covered in finest quality Wye mud (Ali do you have a photo please?)

Anyway to get a feel for what we saw in the cave you could follow the link below (If it works as I am a youtube virgin)

Many thanks Craig for finding such a wonderful campsite in a truly beautiful part of the world.

Friday night a few adventurers took the path down to the pub to enjoy the local brew and hospitality in Brockweir returning tired but heartened by their outing.

Unlike Craig’s possie of troglodites, the rest of us stayed above ground to enjoy the sunshine and the RIVER. Claire has whipped us into organisation and booked 2 canadian canoes for a group of us to go exploring on the River Wye. Fantastic! Joined by Bill “JStroke” Jenman we formed a boys and girls group for our excursion swapping sometime downstream after a hearty lunch on the river bank supping Pimms. There were some “moments” (Sorry Sally) but on the whole a truly tranquil outing.

The following day we went off overland from the campsite to explore the valley of Tintern and the Offa’s Dyke path. Quite inspiring.

A great place to spend midsummers night with bonfires and starlight and only a few hours away.
