Another fantastic weekend in the Mendips with a mixture of caving and walking!
As usual we all met in The Hunters on Friday night …. Mat, Ali, Richard, Mike R, Mike C, Ian, Craig and Viv. After comparing our various journeys through the snow, we enjoyed some hot food and tasty wine/beer!!
Fortunately for us Mad Fi was in the pub, also snowed up in Mendip ……. she offered to lead a Swildons through trip from Priddy Green Sink into Swildons 3 and 4, then out via Sump 1. This was enthusiastically taken up by 4 members of our team!! ( Mike R, Ian, Richard, Mat, )
So when Saturday dawned with another 6 inches of snow, they set off underground and the remainder of the group decided to enjoy walking in the snow and sunshine!! (See photos) The Swildon’s Hole epic was reported to be exhilarating, exhausting and full of squeezes!
Sunday’s trip was into Eastwater Cavern. Craig, Viv, Mike R, Mike C, Richard and Ian all had had a great time negotiating the joys of the Upper Traverse, Dolphin Chimney and most of us reached the 13 pots! A complex 3D cave – Craig is now busy making a layered survey with all the connections drawn, ready for next time!
