Mendips Trip staying at a nice warm hut with real fire! – Sat 19th Dec 2009

So here we are 9.30pm on Sunday night it’s snowing outside the hut and we have a lovely warm wood fire crackling away as I type.
So another successful weekends caving completed and the workers have returned home while the slackers Craig, Viv, Richard and Jane have remained here hoping to be snowed in for the week.
Nine hardy souls (Matt Ian, Mike, Craig, Viv, Mike,R, Richard, Jane and Dominic) braved the “southern snowstorm” and made their way to the Mendips for a weekends caving.
Saturday morning broke fine and very cold -3, and our brave explorers set off to make attempts on Longwood August and Upper Flood Swallet, with the L/A group, Matt, Mike,R, Ian, Dominic beaten back by the amount of water flooding down the entrance shaft. Meanwhile Richard, Craig and Jane attacked U/F and had a fantastic trip.
U/F is a fantastically decorated cave see short video:-

Meanwhile Viv caught up with her last minute Christmas shopping after she admitted having not yet brought her husbands pressie!!

On Sunday we split into two groups one down Charterhouse cave and the other to visit St Cuthbert’s. A grand day out was had by all except Jane (sore knee)and Craig (wimp with cold) who made sure the intrepid Explorers returned to base to a warming cup of tea as it was -5 outside, ouch!
