It really is free! I have checked the exchange rates and Western Union really are not charging anything for sending and receiving money in Nepal whereas my bank would charge £25 per transaction.
I have heard that aid is not getting through to the villages at the moment. I am in touch with my former travel agent, who had to walk the last part of the way to his home village and I have sent some money directly to him. When I was in Nepal I trusted him with my health and my holiday so now I am trusting him to use the money in his village. They have been trying to shelter from the rain under plastic sheeting and the situation sounds very grim, with no power or safe water.
I understand that some of you may prefer to use established charities but if you would like to make a direct contribution, please let me know.
