Gareth Hughes is the section leader. The club climbs on Monday evenings alternate weeks at Withdean and Boulder Brighton. You need to be able to put on a harness, tie-in and belay safely to climb with the club at Withdean, unless it is advertsied as a beginners’ session. The Section Leader and other club members (who are competent climbers ) organise beginners sessions approximately once a month and these will be advertised through the website.
There is a WhatsApp group for BEC members, which is used to organise ad hoc sessions. Once you have joined BEC, if you would like to join the WhatsApp group, please email your name and phone number to: email@example.com or firstname.lastname@example.org
Beginners may attend any of the sessions at Boulder Brighton. Its a good idea to register on line, if you are new to Boulder Brighton, as this will save time: www.boulderbrighton.com/register.
We get a BEC discount if there is a group of 4 or more at Withdean and individually at Boulder Brighton. You can download your membership card by logging in to your account and go to My Membership. Scroll down through Member Information and there is a link ‘Download your membership card click here’. Show your membership card when you are paying.
We also organise some outdoor climbing. In previous years, this has included trips to climbing areas around the UK such as the Peak District, Swanage, Pembroke and Portland, and in Europe. There have been trips to Fontainebleau, Chamonix, the Pyrenees and Ailefroide, but this dependends on the interest and experience of the members of the climbing section.
We have a selection of club equipment for members to borrow including ropes, trad gear and quickdraws, if you are competent to use it. Club equipment may only be used on club trips or with other BEC members.
